Vincent’s carte blanche

A few months ago, I packed my bags and moved to Barcelona for an internship at PROTEGAT Cover. Now that this experience is coming to an end, I’ve been reflecting on everything it has taught me. 👋

Working abroad is about much more than changing your surroundings. It’s about learning to work in a language that isn’t your own, adapting to a different environment, and becoming independent much faster than you ever expect. You step outside your comfort zone almost every day—and that’s exactly where the greatest growth happens.

From a professional perspective, this internship introduced me to the world of international health insurance, an industry I knew very little about but quickly found fascinating. I discovered the level of precision required when communicating in a multicultural environment, the importance of paying attention to every detail, and the value of creating content tailored to audiences with very different needs, whether they are insurance brokers or expatriate policyholders.

Beyond the technical skills, however, this has above all been a human experience. I was fortunate to join a team that welcomed me, took the time to share its knowledge, and encouraged me to take initiative. Those are the kinds of experiences that change you—you never leave quite the same person you were when you arrived.

World Population Day

July 11 marks World Population Day. A good excuse to look at a number that says a lot on its own: 304 million. 🌍

That’s how many people are currently living in a country other than the one they were born in. The number has nearly doubled in thirty years, and keeps climbing.

Behind that statistic sit very ordinary stories: a job offer accepted abroad, a cross-border relationship, a long-planned retirement somewhere sunnier, a transfer nobody saw coming. Lives being built elsewhere, with all their upsides and their administrative grey zones. ✈️

Tour de France

This Saturday, Barcelona hosts the Grand Départ of the Tour de France.

For three days, the city will be filled with yellow jerseys, bicycles, team vehicles, and thousands of supporters who have travelled from France to cheer on their riders. 💪

Then, from Sunday onwards, the whole caravan heads back to France for three weeks of racing, all the way to the Champs-Élysées.

You have to admit, it’s a rather unusual idea: cross a border… only to head straight back the other way.

But then again, travelling, changing countries, and quickly adapting to a new environment are all part of the spirit of a Grand Départ.

Travel insurance or international health insurance

Many people believe they have health insurance abroad. 🌍

In reality, they have purchased travel insurance.

And that is not the same thing.
